At present, fishermen must compete with imported seafood that may not have been caught or farmed according to federal health or food safety regulations. When you buy California or US-caught, you are also reducing our food system's massive carbon footprint!
Support your neighborhood fishermen by visiting these fish markets and boats, and when eating out, be sure to ask your server where the fish comes from! Even if they don't have the answer, it will inspire them to inquire up the food chain...
